Medical Director- Remote 

Eastern or Central Time Zone Preferred

In this environment, we do a lot of writing for different audiences and for different kinds of online and offline deliverables, for live and virtual events, and for market research/analytics projects

Position Summary: 

 

The Medical Director works with the scientific team, project managers, editorial teams, sales/marketing, and executive management to ensure the scientific integrity of all educational projects and new business endeavors. The Medical Director is responsible for providing direction in support of the development of quality, scientifically accurate branded and unbranded promotional and educational materials. The Medical Director accomplishes this by supporting team members in all phases of activities, including brainstorming business development opportunities, assisting in business development activities and researching, creating and revising scientific content. The Medical Director will also be responsible for proposing new ideas and concepts for business development. The Medical Director is expected to develop strong and enduring relationships with thought leaders. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Provides leadership, motivation and direction to the Scientific Services team, as needed 

  • Consistently develops scientific accurate content for full range of medical education programs without supervision; demonstrates in depth understanding of assigned therapeutic areas or willingness to learn assigned areas 

  • Responsible for ensuring the scientific quality and content integrity of proposals and content 

  • Leads discussions regarding medical content with clients and thought leaders, as appropriate 

  • Supervises Scientific Services team and manages freelance medical writers, including appraisals; participates in the screening and interviewing of new candidates for the Scientific Services team and oversees the training and growth of new Scientific Services team members, as needed 

  • Manages workflow within the scientific services group in conjunction with other internal stakeholders, as needed 

  • Guides the development of content, or personally writes and develops content, across a range of medical education activities and publications  

  • Participates in strategic and tactical planning discussions with internal team members  

  • Contributes to organic and new business initiatives, including proposals 

  • Participates in business development presentations and activities 

  • Identifies possible business development targets and networks to solicit new business leads and ideas for business growth 

  • Serves as an ambassador for scientific services department at external scientific and industry meetings 

  • Reports to Chief Medical Officer 

  • Completes timesheets on a regular and timely basis 

Supervisory Duties & Responsibilities 

Manages internal scientific services team and freelance writers, as needed 

Education/Experience  

Required: 

  • Advanced degree in life sciences: PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, DPH, MPH  

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in medical education; oncology experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, guidelines related to ACCME, PhRMA, FDA and OIG rules and regulations 

  • Significant involvement (from conception through implementation) across numerous medical education programs such as congress and symposia, curriculum development meetings, interactive, supplements, speaker bureaus, etc

  • Prior managerial experience 

  • Medical Communication Agency experience preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • Established reputation for excellence, scientific authority and leadership with client, thought leaders, and Scientific Services team  

  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical scientific information 

  • Ability to effectively present scientific/medical information 

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize job requirements, work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously 

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills required 

  • Must be able to work independently and handle multiple high priority projects, as well as supporting functions simultaneously and make sound decisions  

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including the ability to interpret and communicate scientific information 

  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally 15 - 20% of the time including weekends
